John Evans is my g/g/g/father. He with 30 other convicts was seconded, after their arrival to Australia, to "Gidleigh" a property outside the town of Bungendore, NSW. The property was owned by Captain Phillip KING. He received his sentence for stealing the goods of James Jefferson and with a former conviction of felony was sentenced to transportation a term of 7 years. The Docket book at Bristol shows he was found guilty on 14/10/1833 of stealing and given 12 months hard labour and again on 3/1/1831 guilty of stealing, receiving one month hard labour, he was ony 14 years old. He was branted a Ticket of Leave 25/3/1840 and was granted his Ceertificate of Freedom 27/1/1848. He married 1850 to Catherine Gorman, an irish lass who came over with the Irish Orphan Scheme 1848-1850.
