In the colony, Richard married Johanna Tate (Convict, Morley, 1820).
List of persons praying for His Excellency the Governor’s permission to have their names published in Church in order to being married.
Sydney, 4th February 1822.

In the 1822 Census, Johannah is locates as:
Tate, Johanna, convict, Morley, 1820, 7 years, wife of R. Fenton, Sydney.
With her daughter:
Tate, Maria. 10, Orphan School Parramatta.

However, in the 1828 Census Richard appears alone. There is no trace as yet located of Johannah.
