David FERGUSON was convicted at York, England on 11 Dec 1849 for stealing 24 sheep.  7 yr transportation sentence.  Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Equestrian’ departing 1 Sept 1852 & arriving 16 Dec 1852.

Aged 38 yrs; a shepherd; married man; 5’5 3/4” height; sallow complexion, freckled; dk brown hair; brown eyes.
Native place of birth: Dilroyine, Scotland.

Colony of VDL:
Given Pass Holder status upon arriva.
18 Oct 1853: Ticket of Leave granted.
30 April 1855: Conditional Pardon approved.

16 Jan 1857: Certificate of Freedom issued.

25 July 1854: Application for permission to marry to David Ferguson (transported per Equestrian). Approved. (ref. 52/1/7).  Note - remarriages were permitted, as it was very unlikely people could return home or pay to bring their family out.

21 Aug 1854: Marriage - Margaret BOYD, aged 26 yrs, house servant to David Ferguson, aged 40 yrs, a shoemaker. At Parish Church of England, Oatlands, VDL.  (ref. 37/1/13 no. 1256).
