John (Jack) Finnamore (b. 1808, Queen’s County, Ireland) Birth: 1808, Clonaslee, Queen’s County, Ireland. Occupation: Blacksmith; literate. Physical description: 5’11”, red hair, hazel eyes, ruddy/freckled complexion. Crime: Aggravated assault (stone-throwing during political riots, Clonaslee, Aug 1837). Trial: Maryborough Assizes, 14 Mar 1838, age 30; sentenced 7 years transportation. Imprisonment: Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, from 23 Mar 1838. Transportation: Clyde, sailed Dublin 11 May 1838, arrived Sydney 10 Sep 1838. Ticket of Leave: 18 Jun 1842 (#42/1632), Parramatta; moved to Windsor 1843. Certificate of Freedom: 1846 (free by servitude). Marriage (Ireland): 1827, Offaly – Bridget Philan. Four children: Patrick (1831), John, David, Eliza (~1834). Family passage: Approved 1849, but wife Bridget died. Patrick and Eliza arrived Sydney 1853 (Telegraph). John and David believed to have gone to America. Possible 2nd marriage: 1853, Sydney – Johannah Brown (uncertain). Death: 25 Mar 1874, Moss Vale, NSW, age 65; buried Sutton Forest (exact grave unknown)




John Finnamore was 30 years old, married, wife Bridget and 4 children, Patrick, Eliza, John and David. 1842: TOL Parramatta. By 1846 John was free and applied for his family to be sent to NSW. This did not occur but in 1853, 2 of the children, Patrick and Eliza arrived in Sydney per "Telegraph" after John had paid for their passage. By this time wife Bridget had died and the fate of John and David is unknown. Patrick and Eliza married in the Colony and had families of their own. There are over 500 descendants for John. March 1874: John died aged 66.
