Convict Notes
The John Foran (age 19) and the Patrick Foran who were both transported on the same journey of the Minerva in 1819 were not brothers. It was coincidental that both were tried at the same Waterford Spring Assizes in mid March, 1819. Waterford is one of three main areas where the surname Foran is concentrated (with Kilkenny and Kildare). There is no evidence of any family relationship – in fact there is clear evidence of no relationship: Patrick Foran stated that he was a native of (i.e born in) Tipperary, and John Foran stated that he was a native of Waterford. [see the ship indents]. Their offences were also quite different. John Foran was presented as a vagabond and Patrick Foran was indicted for breaking into a house in a small gang and burglarising it of guns.
The marriage between Patrick (Foran) & Eleanor (Grady) occurred on 10 7 1829 at St Marys RC Sydney. Eleanor (Grady) was Free by Servitude by by 1830. Margaret (Foran) died in 1909 age about78. Patrick (Foran) seems to have had a brother John who arrived as a convict on the same ship.

He was convicted of highway robbery & burglary at Waterford City Ireland in 1819, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 7 1819 after a voyage of about 6months on MINERVA; where he was taken to Parramatta then assigned to William (Lawson) then moved to Bathurst about 1823 from Parramatta. He became a labourer, farmer for Government & self - was issued his Ticket of Leave & was living in Sydney when hemarried Ellen (Grady) age17 on 19 7 1829 (permission given 19 6 1829) in Sydney. He resided at Stoney Creek & Davis Creek; he & his wife farmed land near junction of Captain Kings & Sewells Creeks He died on 17 6 1861 age about63 at Kings Creek where he was buried. She arrived in NSW free with her mother & siblings on 12 11 1828 on CITY OF EDINBURGH to join her convict father who had arrived on BRAMPTON. She remained at the Stoney Creek property after her husband died in 1861. She died on 24 7 1894 age about84 at Stoney Creek & was buried at RC O'Connell.
