Jane Forster was born on 30 April 1774, (according to her gravestone), at Carlisle, England (according to her Certificate of Freedom). In October 1817 Jane was convicted at the Quarter Sessions for the City of Carlisle, for the crime of stealing a bundle of cloth from one of the stalls in the Carlisle Fair. She was sentenced to seven years' transportation. She was transported on the "Maria" which departed England on 15 May 1818 and arrived Sydney on 7 September, 1818. She was accompanied by her daughter Mary who was about 9 years old. In the Convict Indent for the ship, Jane was described as a Housekeeper, age 46.] When they arrived in Sydney, they were sent to the Female Factory at Parramatta: "Jane Foster and 1 girl". In the 1822 muster she was listed as a convict assigned to A Bell at Windsor. Jane married William Eaton on September 6, 1824 at St Peters Church of England in Richmond, New South Wales. The register recorded that William Eaton married Jane "Foster" by Banns by Henry Fulton. Witnesses were Edward Carney and Martha Cross. William Eaton had arrived as a convict aboard the ship "Admiral Barrington" in 1791 as part of the Third Fleet. In December 1824 Jane received her Certificate of Freedom which had her description: Native place Carlisle, a servant, age 49, 5 feet 6 inches tall, sallow and pock marked complexion, brown hair and hazel eyes. In the 1825 muster she was listed as Jane Forster, free by servitude, Maria, 1818, 7 years, wife of Wm Eaton, Richmond. Her daughter Mary Forster was listed as came free, Maria 1818, daughter of Jane Forster, Richmond. Her daughter, Mary Forster married James Flood on 8 April 1828 in Windsor NSW. In the 1828 census, Jane was listed as Jane Eaton, 53, free by servitude with her husband William Eaton, 59, free by servitude, farmer at Richmond, and his children from a previous marriage, George 19, John 17, Ann 15. Jane Eaton died on 31 May 1840. She was buried in St Peters Church of England Cemetery, Richmond, New South Wales.

She married secondly (2of3) William (Patten) on 21 5 1820 at St Johns CofE Launceston. In 1822 she was assigned to A (Bell) at Windsor. She is recorded in 1823 in hospital. She was issued her Certificate of Freedom in December 1824; she was 5'6" sallow pockmarked complexion brown hair hazel eyes. She is recorded in 1825 as Free by Servitude at Richmond with her daughter. She is recorded in 1828 with her husband & some of his family at Richmond.
