Old Bailey Online (DOB from here) 1089. JOHN FORSTER was indicted for stealing, on the 26th of July , a watch, value 2l. a watch-chain, value 3l. three seals, value 7l. and a watch-key, value 10l. the property of Charles Simpson , from his person . MR. CHARLES SIMPSON . On the 26th of July last, about ten o'clock at night, I was going home by the gates of the Artillery Ground , and I saw the prisoner coming towards me. On his coming up to me, he snatched my watch, and ran off; I felt it go. He ran towards Finsbury-square, and I ran after him, crying stop thief. When I had ran after him about thirty or forty yards. I was thrown down by somebody in the middle of the road; I got up again, and when I got into Finsbury-square, I found he was stopped. GUILTY , aged 25. Transported for Seven Years . First Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Recorder.
