Frederick Foster was transported on the Marion, departing 22nd Nov 1843 and arriving 3rd Apr 1844 with 302 passengers.
Built 1834 at Calcutta. Wood ship of 684 Tons. The 1847/48 voyage sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) BUT also went on to Port Phillip Bay, Victoria where 300 exiles disembarked. (The newspaper source says they were from Millbank, Pentonville & Parkhurst prisons.)

Frederick Foster was transported tried Yorkshire on 12 July 1843 (con 33/53; con 14/27; con 18/39). Occupation as Iron Moulder. Transported per "Marion 1" on 20 November 1843 for burglary- received a sentence of 10 yrs. Arrived VDL 4/4/1844. He was protestant, could read and write was 5'6 & 1/2" tall; 21 years of age, fair complexion, Red hair with sandy eyebrows, hazel eyes, long thin nose, medium mouth, medium chin, no whiskers, small sar on the left thumb, scar on left eyebrow and scar on 2nd finger of right hand, mole over right eye. Idle drunken, bad character, indifferent disposition - one of a gang of robbers. Once in prison. Susp. of felony - connecion of thieves and prostitutes. Single. Hulk report - good. Native place given as Yorkshire near Leeds. Stealing plate from Mr Bariff at Wakefield. Small scar left thumb, scar left eyebrow, mole under right eye. 5.9.1844 - soap concealing - 14 days solitary 9.8.1844 - absconding - 50 lashes 15.11.1844 - ? or orders - reprimand.
