John Frills was transported for stealing a silver snuff box. John was 21 years old, brown hair, black eyes, 5'2" tall, fresh complexion, scars all over his body, pockpitted, native place: Glasgow. 8/5/49: TOL 9/7/1849: Larceny at Hobart - sent for trial 24/7/1849: Guilty - transportation for 7 years, to be sent to Port Arthur for 2 years. 5/4/1852: Tried Hobart Supreme Court as Thomas Costello who was free by servitude, for stealing from the person of Mr C D Smith - 7 years transportation - to be sent to Port Arthur for 2 years. 3/4/1855: TOL 27/11/1855: TOL Revoked 23/3/1856: Absconding 5/1/1858: TOL 6/7/1858: CP 7/9/1858: Stole a carpet bag and a pair of boots from Henry Hedington - 6 months hard labour 16/8/1859: Idle and disorderly - admonished November 1861: Had been sentenced to 3 months hard labour at Longford, for vagrancy but absconded from the gang. Had quite a few more convictions - nothing big - seems to have been a habitual scavenger. 18/11/1878: Remanded for embezzling the moneys of John Goody - no outcome. This was the last reference to John.
