Michael Gallagher and Patrick Quin were indicted for feloniously stealing six sheep, the goods of James Barrett. The prosecutor stated that he lost six sheep, and got them again from Serjeant Irwin of the police ; some of them had marks, and he recognized the same marks again when he got them. Serjeant Irwin stated that he got the sheep in the possession of a man named  Hallinan ; Gallagher confessed that he had stolen the sheep, when he had been taken into custody; the sheep were put in pound, and Barrett claimed  them. The prisoners stated that they had no evidence to examine—Gallagher said that Quin had given the sheep to him. The Court directed the Jury to acquit Quin, and he was then brought upon the table, and examined, but he denied all knowledge of the sheep, and seemed in a wonderful hurry to get away --- Quin was sent down, and Gallagher exclaimed—“ he’s free now, and that I may never leave this ’till I’m hung, but he gave me the sheep.”—(laughter.) Guilty.  Mayo Constitution, 4 Aug 1831. Michael Gallagher, stealing sheep: to be transported for seven years. . . , Mayo Constitution, 8 Aug 1831.
