LONGFORD SPRING ASSIZES Thomas Gara was arraigned for robbing a poor widow the parish of some baize flannel, frizeĀ coat, shirt, shawl, and other articles, her son proved that he followed the prisoner to Ballymahon on the day after the robbery, and on the road to Kenagh he overtook him with a bundle in his hand, and his coat on his back. He was found guilty, and sentenced to 7 years transportation. Roscommon & Leitrim Gazette, 7 March 1840.
1868, 19 October: Thomas GARRA per Pekoe 1840, stealing, 7 years, is on a list of so-called "British Lunatics" in the "Parramatta Lunatic Asylum" (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891). 1876, 29 September: Thomas GARRA died in the "Lunatic Asylum" at Parramatta on this day (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891; Convicts Deaths; Death Register, 1828-1879; and New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891; Convict Returns and Letters to Officials, 1856-1891).
