In the colony, James married Janette Robinson McKinnon, 1st September 1840. Janette had arrived free with her parents and siblings on the ship 'Brilliant' in 1838. James and Janette had 10 children in the next 15 years. James worked as a blacksmith in the Bega area. He died aged only 48.




James Gee age 15, could read, Protestant, single, native of Derbyshire, a cutler's boy, convicted for housebreaking at Derby 3 Jul 1832, 7 years sentence, no former convictions, 4 feet 11 inches tall, fair, ruddy and a little pock pitted complexion, light hair and brown eyes, anchor back of lower right arm, J G upper, and anchor imperfect, on lower left arm.
