Old Bailey: WILLIAM GLADMAN. Theft: grand larceny. 20th February 1822 Verdict Guilty Sentence Transportation WILLIAM GLADMAN was indicted for stealing, on the 22d of February, two yards of canvass, value 1 s., and one sack, value 1 s., the goods of Benjamin Hull. ROBERT CHRISTIAN. I am an officer of Mile End. On Sunday morning, at quarter past six o'clock, I saw the prisoner and another lad at the back of Hull's house; the other one got over the rail, and handed something over to the prisoner, who put it in a bag - the other ran off. I secured the prisoner with the bag, containing the sack and canvass. BENJAMIN HULL. They are mine; I lost them out of my garden on the 22d of February. Prisoner's Defence. I found them. GUILTY. Aged 20. Transported for Seven Years. William lived with his mother at Kingsland Road, she was a washerwoman. Conduct Record: Empty. 29/4/1834: Married Rhoda Hurst at the Church of England, Brighton, Tas. (Rhoda was the daughter of William Hurst, a convict, she was born 18/12/1815 at Wootton, Bedfordshire, Eng.) Children: 17/4/1833: Thomas 19/12/1834: Elizabeth Ann 19/7/1836: Sarah Ann 14/7/1838: Samuel 29/3/1840: William 1842: Frederick 1842: Alfred 9/5/1843: Emma 9/10/1844: Mary 2/8/1847: Joseph Henry 14/5/1848: Henry 1849: Charles 19/2/1851: John 5/3/1853: James 7/3/1855: Robert Leslie 4/6/1858: Eliza Ann The first 12 children were born in Tasmania, they then moved to Winchelsea, Victoria., and had their last 4 children there. 12/12/1885: William died at Winchelsea, Vic., and is buried at Winchelsea Cemetery. The cause of his death was "Cirrhosis Hepatitis". Rhoda died on 6/4/1894 at Winchelsea and was also buried at Winchelsea Cemetery.
