Convict Notes

Refer Notes on Charles Jerrison (Glossop ?) on the Ship Woodford 1828. This Charles Glossop is presumed to be the same as "Charles of Oakleigh". It is believed that this Charles Glossop is the Son of Charles Glossop (Combmaker) & Catherine Sullivan who married 1823 in Southwark Surrey. Charles jnr appears in the 1841 Census at Tower Hamlets, refer Find My Past. During 1840, 1841 and 1842 he appears in Old Bailey records for theft, with a sentance in 1843 of Transportation on the Ship Marion. About 1852 he is in Victoria and, later a charge of stealing a Watch in Collingwood is recorded with a sentence of 1 year Gaol in Melbourne. The document mentions his marriage to Frances Reeves and his arrival on the Marion. They are recorded as him being a Gold Miner and having married 19 Apr 1855 in Creswick. No children have been found and Frances may have remarried an Alfred Addison, also no issue found. This Charles Glossop is believed to be the person who died 1882 in South Melbourne aged 53, with some unknowns. References are BMDs' Vic, Find My Past, etc. Published by Lynton Ford & Leanne Mason (descendant of a Charles Glossop).
