James married Ann Cain, 11 February 1817, Samuel Marsden officiated in the ceremony. It appears that the couple had 8 children up to about 1822. At this point they seem to gave separated and both gone into new relationships. James then was with Mary Allen (nèe Sherwin) and they also had several children. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref G0882] Gough, James, 38, CP, Earl Spencer, 1812, Life, Builder at Cambridge St, Sydney. Also in the family group were 5 children all born in the colony, 3 were from the marriage to Ann Cain and 2 were from the liaison with Mary Allen. Noted elsewhere in the census was Allen, Mary, 27, born in the colony, housekeeper to James Gough!
