Sly Grog Selling. — On Thursday last, Maurice Grady, from Duval, appeared before the Parramatta Bench, on a charge of sly-grog selling. From the evidence given for the
prosecution, it appeared that Chief Constable Ryan, during one of his Sunday rounds, passed the defendant’s hut, at the door of which he saw a number of men drinking.
On going up to see who they were, he recognised the greater part of them as assigned servants, belonging to the neighbouring settlers. This being proved to be the second offence against
Grady, he was ordered to pay a fine of £50., with £5 costs, or be imprisoned for twelve months.
