Glasgow born, William Renfrew Greig worked as a tailor for the East Indian Company in Bengal, and was convicted at Fort William, Bengal, and transported from Calcutta to Van Diemen’s Land on the “Royal Saxon”, one of 7 prisoners on board.

1460. William Renfrew Greig. Royal Saxon. Arrived 16/3/49.  Tried at Bengal Fort William, 30 Oct 1848, 7 years Transported for uttering a forged order for 300 Rupees for Mr Cameron, Calcutta. Single.  E.I.C.’s Service 3 yrs & 8 months. Trade- tailor cut out. Age 29.
Several incidents on conduct record.
Died in Hospital Cascades, 14 July 1853.
