William HARDACRE was convicted at Ripon, Yorkshire, England on 8 Jan 1848 for stealing a turkey. Previously convicted for poaching. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Pestonjee Bomanjee’ arriving 31 July 1852.
Aged 40 yrs; single man; Church of England; farm labourer; can read & write; 5’3 1/4”; sallow complexion; black hair; black bushy whiskers; dark eyes, blind in right eye.
Native place of birth: nr Ripon, Yorkshire. (ref. convict record)

Granted passholder status upon arrival.
Work assignments, Longford district.
Record of employment for Henry Clayton, Perth, VDL.

7 April 1855: Certificate of Freedom issued.
