New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842. Age; 22 Est birth Year; 1800 Date of Trial: 12 Sep 1821. Middlesex, England Sentence; 7 years ------------------------- Old Bailey online 1229. JOHN HARWOOD was indicted for stealing, on the 8th of September , one toast rack, value 7 s. , the goods of James Shabot . ROBERT LONG . I am servant to Mr. James Shabot , a merchant , of Montague-street, Russell-square . On the 8th of September, about ten o'clock in the morning, I was at breakfast, the cook came down from the dining-room, and said I had not put the heater in the fire; I went into the pantry and saw the prisoner put his hand through the iron bar, the window was open, and take the toast rack - he had come down the area steps. I ran after him - he threw it down in Montague-street - I caught him in Bury-street, and gave him in charge - I never lost sight of him. WILLIAM WALTON . I was in the mews and saw the prisoner run across with the toast rack, he threw it down at my feet, I picked it up - Long was following and took him. (Property produced and sworn to.) Prisoner's Defense. I heard the cry and ran into Bury-street after the thief. GUILTY . Aged 21. Transported for Seven Years .
