John HAYDEN was convicted at Kilkenny on 13 March 1843 for the rape of a woman, a fellow servant. Life sentence. No previous offences. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Constant' arriving 26 Aug 1843. Aged 30 yrs; house servant/valet/groom/can drive; 5'3 3/4"; can read; Roman Catholic. Native Place - Queens County, Ireland. Mother: Sally Sisters: Catherine & Mary 42 mths Probation Period in Colony. Stationed at Impression Bay. 1852: At Fingal 20 Dec 1853: Application for Permission to Marry - John Hayden (per Constant) to Grace Hooper (free, ? ex Elizabeth & Henry). 11 Feb 1854 Approved. 31 Jan 1854: Ticket of Leave granted 26 Mar 1854: Married Grace Hooper, at Oatlands. (Registration of John's name is under "Headen". (Ref. 37/1/13 no. 1271) 20 May 1856: Conditional Pardon
