Daniel Hearn was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

In addition, the Newcastle Description books for 1853, 1854 and 1855 state that Daniel Hearn, Waterloo, arriving in 1836 was entered in these books as aged 45, 46 and 47 years old respectively. Offences are unknown.




The Convict Indentures state that Daniel Hearn was 28 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Tipperary. He was a shoemaker, tolerable. Daniel was convicted of assault on 4 August 1835 at Tipperary and sentenced to 7 years. He had one prior convictions and served 3 weeks. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 5 1/2 inches; complexion sallow; hair light brown and eyes hazel. Transport number 153. Prisoner number 36-1956. Received certificate of freedom on 24 July 1843 (number 43/1175) at Patrick Plains. Received ticket of leave on 15 January 1852 (number 52/67). Ticket of leave states that he received 12 months on roads. Offence not stated. Place seems to be Maitland. Comment on ticket of leave states that Daniel Hearn also served 12 months in Iron gang - 12 April 1847.
