Thomas HESTER was convicted at Middlesex, London on 27 Dec 1843 for obtaining a bridle and saddle under false pretence. Previous conviction for stealing. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'London' arriving 10 July 1844. Ship Surgeon's Report: "exemplary". Aged 41yrs; single man; farm labourer & ploughman, Protestant, literate, ruddy complexion, red hair, Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Longford, near Windsor. Father: George Brother: Frederick Sister: Louisa (ref. family details as recorded on Convict Indent) In the Colony: 15 mth Probation Period. Station Gang: Maria Island (off the east coast of Tasmania) Emerged from Gang Oct 1845. 11 January 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 1849: Larceny, under 5 pounds. Ticket of Leave revoked. 27 Aug 1850: Ticket of Leave restored. 10 April 1854: Charged with embezzling 15 pounds. 2 yrs imprisonment - at New Norfolk. 25 April 1857: Free Certificate.
