Frederick Hind was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 13th Jul 1829 and arriving 14th Dec 1829 with 200 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Convict Notes
Frederick Hind was born in Nottingham - he was transported for 'Stealing a watch from a dwelling house. Frederick was 5'5" tall, dark brown hair, grey eyes, single, Woman E H Moon & 7 Stars {X: cruci} square & Compass on rt. arm anchor F H H H on left arm Star betn. finger & thumb left hand ring pricked on ring finger left hand. 1830-35 Musters: Assigned to the Public Works. Absconded many times - 27/9/1833 The Tasmanian, Hobart: Patrick Murphy, William Taylor, and Frederick Hinds, for absconding from Constitution Hill road party, were each sentenced to three years imprisonment at Port Arthur. 11/3/1834 Colonial Times, Hobart: Patrick Murphy and Frederick Hind were charged with absconding from the chain gang, and remaining absent until apprehended yesterday. Murphy's ori- ginal sentence extended for three years, and recommended to be removed to Port Arthur for the remainder of his sentence in irons; Hind to receive seventy-five lashes, and to be employed the remainder of his sentence in irons in the Hulk chain gang. 8/12/1837: TOL (from newspaper) 12/2/1838: Appointed as a Constable. 28/2/1842: CP 8/10/1842: Launceston Examiner: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4. William Vaughan, William Simmonds, and Frederick Hind, were indicted, on two counts, for forgery ; the first count charged them with forging and fabricating a cheque, and the second with uttering the same knowing it to be so forged and fabricated. Vaughan guilty on the first count ; to be trans- ported for life. Hind and Simmonds guilty on the second count ; the former to be transported for fifteen years, and the latter for ten years. 12/9/1843: CP (This was listed in the Launceston Examiner). 9/6/1844: Frederick Hind died at Port Arthur.
