George Hiscock was 21 years old on arrival in VDL - he was transported for 'shooting at james gingell a serjeant; john ball struck him in the right arm; I was drunk & the serjeant put me into the guard room & threatened to make a stain on my back which no water would wash out; I was sentenced to death'. Listed as being born in 1821, although he was listed as being born in 1810 on the 'Graves of Tasmania' website. George came from Marlboro, Wiltshire but was tried in Halifax, Nova Scotia - he was 5'6 1/4" tall, could read and write, single, protestant, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, scar on right eyebrow, anchor between forefinger and thumb left hand, wart of left thumb, scar on upper lip left side - has been a soldier. 16/12/1851: TOL 19/12/1854: CP No marriage found. 31/12/1884 Tasmanian News, Hobart: An old inmate of the Invalid Depot named George Hiscock was sentenced to two week’s imprisonment for violently assaulting another invalid inmate yesterday. 9/1/1901: George died at the New Town Charitable Institution, listed as 91 years old (born 1810) and buried at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Hobart.
