Parents: William Hitchcock and Mary Egglestone. His father was a wheelwright in Scarrington,Nottinghamshire. The family had moved around a bit and Robert was baptised at Orston. Robert married Elizabeth Goodacre in Prestwold, Leicestershire 23 May 1825. They had one child. He described his occupation as farmers man and groom. Robert was sentenced to death at Nottingham Lent (Mar) Assizes 1826 for horse stealing but this was commuted to transportation for life. He was shipped out on the Albion to Sydney but later absconded back to England. He was shipped out again in Mar 1832 to VDL on the ship England (arriving 18 Jul 1832) and was Muster assigned to Mr. W. Gurner. He then ran away from Hobart (New Years Eve 1833?)...
