On Wednesday was committed to the Castle,  William Hodgson, late of Haxey, pig-jobber, of stealing three heifers and one steer, the property of Mr. Adam Bird, surgeon, from a close  in the parish of Misson. Stamford Mercury, 20 May 1825. Stealing Beasts at Misson. William Hodgson, aged 20, late of Haxey, jobber, was indicted for stealing three heifers value 18£. and one steer value 6£, the property  of Mr. A. Bird, surgeon and apothecary, West Stockwith, on the night of ? the? of May last. In second count  they were described as four beasts were last seen on the prosecutor's land at Misson about half-past three in the afternoon of the ?, they were driven over Walkerith Ferry, 7 miles distant, by the prisoner at 12 that night, and were sold by him on the road leading towards Lincoln about 9 the next morning, to Thos. Holdsworth, a jobber at Stockwith, for 16£ 18s; on the 10th of May they were found in the possession of Mr, Rastall, who resides about 5 miles from Newark, and there identified by the prosecutor. The prisoner was apprehended on the same day, house adjoining his own residence at when he declared that he had bought the beasts for 12s. From a person named Smith, but he gave no proof of such fact, trial —Guilty. Stamford Mercury, 22 July 1825.

William was the brother of Benjamin Thomas Hodgson also sent to Australia as a convict from Yorkshire. This person had no children but married an Isabella Dodds
