CONVICT SHIP ATLAS II, Left Ireland May 1802 and arrived 30 oct same year. Ship's Captain Musgrave. [This is a different ship to ATLAS I which left Ireland in November 1801 and had a heavy death rate under Capt Richard Brooks.] ____________________ Denis Hogan arrived in NSW on convict ship Atlas II on 30 Oct 1802, under sentence of life transportation for rape. His crime had occurred during the rebellion ( but it was not necessarily a rebel crime, although there were many such outrages on women at Wexford in 1798). * Freemans Journal Thursday 17 April 1800 page 3 " Wexford Assizes Terminated the 11th instant at which the following persons were tried before the Hon Justice Kelly and found guilty: " ... Dennis Hogan, for a rape on Mary Hawkins, a woman of nearly 50 years of age. The act was committed during the rebellion. The prosecutrix, it appeared, had been much injured by the prisoner, from having been disordered by him." Denis Hogan remained in prison for the remainder of 1800 and 1801. The ATLAS II left Cork in May 1802. NSW: Arrived at Sydney on 30 October 1802. * 1806 Muster - Prisoner, Labourer, Parramatta * 1814 Cond Pardon 31 January 1814 . Tried at Wexford and Native of Wexford. Life. Details: 5ft 5inches high, pale sallow skin, black hair and hazel eyes. * 1814 Muster at Sydney. Labourer off stores.
