25/2/1843 Cambridge Independent Press Cambridgeshire, England: NORFOLK Brutal Case.__We have this week to record a most brutal case of rape, which was committed in this place on Friday night. A little before ten o’clock, a young woman, named Sarah Newdick, about 18 years of age, walked on to Common Staithe Quay, accompanied by a young man of her acquaintance, when, on passing the end of the Fish-market, she was seized by one of five lads, who were standing there, who swung her round till she fell to the ground. In this position she was held, whilst tow of them violated her person, her companion having left her at the commencement of the affray….fortunately, however, they were all known, and have been taken into custody, and a very clear case found against them: in fact, we believe, they do not deny the crime; their names are Henry Gent, George Howard, Robert Twaits, John Wingfield, and John Bond; their ages from 13 18 years. They will sent to Norwich for trial, the jurisdiction of the borough no longer extending to capital offences. Henry Gent, Robert Twaites, were also on board the Maitland 1844, no ship found for the others. George Howard, was sent to Norfolk Island. 30/8/1846: Arrived VDL - then described as 21 years old, 5'6" tall, brown complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, eyebrows meeting, mole on front throat, mole under left ear 2 moles inside upper right arm, scar outside left knee. 5/9/1854: Absconded - 18 month hard labour. 9/9/1854: to Port Arthur. 15/4/1856: TOL 20/4/1858: CP
