NSW 1828 Census. William Howlett, age 34 , F.S. per Larkins, 1817, 7 years, protestant, Settler at Prospect. Has 10 horses and 45 head of cattle. Lydia Howlett, age 18, BC. Jane Howlett, 1 ½ BC. Thomas Howlett, age 32, TL, per Larkins, 1817, Life.

On Saturday last was committed to the gaol of Ely, by the Rev. Sir Henry Bate Didley, Bart. and the Rev. Dr. Ward, William Howlett, late of Soham, in: this county, charged on the oath of Broderick, with being one of the desperate gang of house-breakers who, 18 months ago, burglariously entered his dwelling- house and shop in Ely, and stole thereout woollen-cloths and other goods, to a considerable value. Cambridge Chronicle, 24 Jan 1817. Wm. Howlett was indicted for having, the night of the I7th of June, 1815, or the following morning, burglariously, broken open the shop  and dwelling-house of Mr. William Broderick, tailor and draper, of Ely. The jury found him guilty of stealing to the value of 6£. Sentenced to be transported for seven years. Norfolk Chronicle, 2 Feb 1817.

Family connections for William (Howlett) are: HOWLETT William (Howlett) was born about 1795. He was tried at Cambridge Isle of Ely Session of Peace Oyer & Terminer Commission, sentenced to 7yrs, held at Ely Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 22 11 1817 after a voyage of 4months on LARKINS. He was recorded in Parramatta as a coachman in 1827 & a farmer in 1830. [Some details taken from this Website; where also a Thomas (Howlet) is found] 1.Lydia (Hewitt) was born on 16 6 1810 & baptised on 12 8 1810 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She married at age16 William (Howlett) on 3 7 1826 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She died in 1846 age about36. Details of Lydia (Hewitt)s family are given in entry for William (Hewitt HMS GLATTON 1803) on this Website. William (Howlett) & Lydia (Hewitt) produced at least 2children: [..Noted a Mary (Howlett) is recorded as born in September 1819, died on 13 6 1820 age9m & was buried at St Johns CofE Parramatta-no parents given] 1.Jane (Howlett) was born on 13 4 1827 at Parramatta & baptised on 29 7 1827 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. 2.Sarah (Howlett) was born on 10 11 1829 at Parramatta & baptised on 15 8 1830 at St Johns CofE Parramatta.
