Co-convicted with his brother Samuel, who was transported on the same ship to VDL. 10 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Layton' arriving there 1 Sept 1841. Ship surgeon's report: "good". Stated his proper name was George Hulme. Brother was Samuel Hulme. Married man, wife Alice and one child. Aged 26yrs; a silk twister; Protestant; can read; 5'5 3/4"; fair complexion; brown hair; dk Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: nr Leek, Staffordshire. Colony of VDL: 1 and half yrs Probation Period Assigned to work from the Launceston Barracks. 1842: noted as "lazy & indifferent". Later, quiet but indifferent. Some notes of minor misconduct. 2 Feb 1847: Ticket of Leave granted. 2 April 1850: Free Certificate issued.
