22/3/1836 North Wales Chronicle Caernarfonshire, Wales: Merionethshire Assizes Alexander James and Owen Jones, two itinerant pedlars, were found guilty of breaking into the shop of Mr. John Pugh Jones, on the 4th of February last at Dyffryn, on the Harlech and Barmouth road, and stealing some pence, a spoon, knife, seal, combs, &c., and sentenced to be transported for life. Owen Jones arrived VDL per 'Eden' 1836. Alexander James was listed as 22 years old on arrival. Native Place: North Wales. Alexander was illiterate, protestant, single, 5'6½" tall, dark and little pock pitted complexion, dark brown hair hazel eyes, lost a part of a front upper tooth, small hairy mole outside upper right arm, breast hairy, stwo scars back of fore and one back of middle fingers of left hand. 1837: Alexander James, aged 22, assigned to the A.A. Company at Port Stephens, NSW. 30/7/1841: Absconded from the A.A. Company 18th July.
