In consequence of a strong recommendation from the Jury, on behalf of John Joyce, whose execution for the murder of Hugh Moran in 1817 was to have taken place on Saturday, the sentence of the unfortunate man has been respited by the Learned Judges until the wishes of the Lord Lieutenant are ascertained. MAYO ASSIZES.  John Joyce was indicted for having, with several other persons unknown, on the 25th of February, in the 67th year of the late King murdered Hugh Moran., It appeared by the evidence brought forward, that the prisoner with several other persons had forced an entrauce into the house of the deceased, with the intention of robbery; that the deceased followed  the persons out of the house, and had received several stabs on his body, and cuts on his head—of which wounds he died  in the course of the night. After a trial of considerable length, the prisoner was found guilty, and received sentence of death. Drogheda Journal, 2 Aug 1826.
