Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The Convict Indentures state that Ellen Keane was 20 years old. She could not read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Kerry. She was a child's maid. Ellen was convicted of vagrancy at Kerry on 16 July 1838 and sentenced to 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served 14 days. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 0 inches; complexion dark ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes dark hazel. Transport number 135. Prisoner number 137-39. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1845 (number 45/1329)
