Patrick was tried in 1800 in Dublin City and sentenced to transportation for life. He was transported aboard the ship Atlas and was described on arrival as an innkeeper, age 24.

In the colony, Patrick formed a relationship with Elizabeth Budden (Came Free, Pitt, 1792). Elizabeth had come with her de-facto partner, Richard Tuckwell (NSW Corps, Pitt, 1792). She had several children, fathered by Richard, up to about 1805. At which point, it would appear she commenced a relationship with Patrick.
Patrick and Elizabeth were eventually married January 29th 1810. They had two children, Catherine 1810 and Thomas 1812.
