William Lacey was one of 9 'political' convicts sent to Tasmania. He was my husband's GGG Grandfather. Read about him on this interesting website http://www.chartists.net/Transported-to-Australia.htm#lacey. He was given a ticket of leave on arrival in Tasmania and settled in Launceston. He was joined by his family and ran a shoe business. (He had been a successful shoemaker in UK). Unfortunately he died just before being pardoned.
