The Patriot Convict Indentures state that James Lahey was 30 years old. He could read and write; religion Catholic; status married with 2 sons and a native of Kilkenny City, Ireland. His trade was labourer and soldier in 41 Regiment. He was convicted of attempting to stab the adjutant at Bellary, South India on 1 March 1837 and convicted to 7 years transportation. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 8 1/2 inches; complexion dark sallow and a little pock pitted; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number: 1. Prisoner number 38-198. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1844 (number 44/934).
