Family connections for Richard (Lane) are: LANE Richard (Lane/Lyons) was born about 1760. He was tried as Richard (Lane) for breaking entering & stealing a watch etc at Winchester Hampshire on 2 3 1784, sentenced to 7years, held possibly at Southampton & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 1 1788 after a voyage of 6.5months on SCARBOROUGH. He was sent to Norfolk Island in 1792, but recorded (as Richard (Lyne) arriving on 29 1 1790. He had a first relationship with Mary (Davis) from 1791. He left Norfolk Island with his family on 9 3 1793 on KITTY to Port Jackson NSW. He enlisted in NSW Corps on 13 4 1793 as a private. In 1795 he was granted 25acres at Portland Head. In 1798 he was detached to (Grose)s company. In 1804 he was detached to (Paterson)s company at Port Dalrymple Tasmania, taking his family on BUFFALO. He was Free by Servitude by 1807. She was tried for stealing leather shoes at Old Bailey on 24 10 1787, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & Newgate Gaol & arrived in NSW on 3 6 1790 after a voyage of 12months on LADY JULIANA; she was sent to Norfolk Island in August 1790 on SURPRISE. She left Norfolk Island with her family on 9 3 1793 on KITTY to Port Jackson NSW. In 1804 she travelled to Port Dalrymple Tasmania with her family on BUFFALO. She died on 12 1 1837 age65/70 & was buried at Launceston mother of possibly 4children. She married Richard (Dry) emancipist on 11 4 1809. She died on 24 2 1836 age43 at Elphin Castle near Launceston. ..Richard (Dry) was born about 1771 at Wexford co. Ireland & became a wool sorter/draper. He joined the United Irishmen & was active with them. He was tried for political insurrection at Cork Ireland in September 1797, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 1 1800 after a voyage of 4.5months on MINERVA; he was Protestant. He was sent to Norfolk Island arriving in 1801 & returned to Port Jackson leaving on 22 2 1805 on INVESTIGATOR. He was sent to Port Dalrymple Tasmania & was apppointed storekeeper/clerk in 1807. He purchased land & was granted 50acres at Quamby Plains near Westbury Which he named 'Bele Vue' & later became 'Quamby'. He was Free by Servitude by 1811. He was recorded on 18 3 1816 as Superintendent. For his good service, including as Commissariat clerk, he was Pardoned in December 1817. In 1822 he was assistant secretary of British & Foreign Bible Society at Port Dalrymple. In 1827 he had amassed by purchases his holdings to 12,000acres. In 1828 he was one of founders of Cornwall Bank & in 1832 one of founders of Tamar Steam Navigation Company. From 1830 he lived at his farm 'Elphin' near Launceston. He died in 1843 age72 at Launceston. Tas. Govt. LINC: Richard Lyons died at St John's Infirmary age 85. About 1810 LYONS co-habited with Isabella CLARKSON, convict, resulting in the birth of a son, Richard, born NSW BDM 2605/1811 [Reel 5001: V18112605 1A, born 19 Apr 1811, baptised 10 Jan 1812 at St Phillips, Sydney. Death: V18122811 2A , Richard LYONS, infant aged 8 months, St Phillip's. Richard, infant, was buried in the Old Burial Ground 12 Jan 1812. Richard supplied meat on several occasions: eg Hobart Town Gazette and Van Diemen's Land Advertiser, Friday 31 December 1824, page 1 LIST of Persons to Supply Fresh Meat at Port Dalrymple for the ensuing Quarter, ending 26th March, 1825.
