Assigned on arrival in VDL to T C Simpson, a well-to-do person in Launceston. Served 11 years and received conditional parson no 1439 in 1837. Next heard of in Port Philip (Melbourne) in 1842 where he marries Anne Jane East (migrant from London) but she dies almost immediately. Robert prospers as a carter and then property-owner, coinciding with the Gold Rush and growth of Melbourne. He becomes wealthy and lives in an exclusive part of the city, St Kilda's. He is buried there.
