JOHN LENNARD age 14 Arrived Lady Harewood 4 march 1831 Trial Yorkshire West Riding Qr Sessions Sentenced to 7 year for stealing a cap R&W, RC, native of Cavan errand Boy, Tailor prior sentence of 1 month imprisonment 4ft 7” pale freckled skin, light brown hair and hazel eyes, Speck on left eye. Diagonal scar centre of forehead at top Man on Right arm, J inverted on the left arm, small scar over inner part right eyebrow. Sheffield Independent Saturday 24 January 1829 page 3. " JOHN LENNARD aged 14 and Joseph lee aged 14, were charged with stealing on 6th January at Sheffield, two seal skin caps, the property of Mr Charles Cliff. "Mr Cliff - is a hatter at Sheffield, was in his shop on Tuesday 6th January and saw the two prisoners from half past ten until twelve walking about, and looking into the window. Saw Lee untie a cap which was hanging on a string in the shop, and give it to his companion who ran away with it. Prosecutor seized Lee, and followed Lennard, who had the cap in his possession when he was taken. He gave them into custody of FLATHER, who corroborated the evidence and produced the cap, which was identified by the prosecutor. The jury found both the prisoners guilty. Lennard, who had been twice convicted before for felony was sentenced to Seven years transportation, with a recommendation to the penitentiary; and Lee to be whipped."
