William LIDDLE was convicted at Edinburgh Court, Scotland on 22 Feb 1847 for assault, robbery and stealing money. Previously convicted for stealing. 10 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Aboukir' arriving 20 March 1850. Single man; aged 20 yrs; a baker by trade; Presbyterian religion; can read & write a little; 5'6 1/2" height; brown hair; fresh complexion, freckled; blue eyes. Native place of birth: Edinburgh, Scotland (ref. convict record) Colony of VDL: Pass Holder upon arrival. 1853: at Rose, Morven (now Evandale) - refuse to work. 6 mths hard labour, in chains. 16 Aug 1853: abscond. Sept 1863: abscond from Mr. Gunn's. 6 mths hard labour, in chains. 26 Dec 1854: Ticket of Leave granted. 18 Dec 1855: Conditional Pardon approved.
