Family connections for John (Lynch) are: Amendments added Feb 2026. LYNCH John (Lynch) was born about 1790 & became a weaver. He was tried at Kerry Ireland, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 2 1813 after a voyage of 9months on ARCHDUKE CHARLES. In 1820 he was a constable at Parramatta. He married Sarah Anne/Jane (Pendergast/Toomey her second marriage) on 23 8 1824 at St Marys RC Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1826. He is listed in 1828 with his family farmer to brother in law Thomas (Pendergast) at Ashgrove Luskintyre. On 29 9 1831 he entered Newcastle gaol from Maitland & was to be sent to Sydney for trial. In 1833 he had 100acres at Sugarloaf/Watagan Creek which he named 'Grove Hill'. He acqired more land & by 1851 he had 8allottments including at Wollombi & Narone Ck. He died on 18 8 1852 age62. She is listed in 1828 with her family at Ashgrove Luskintyre. She died on 24 6 1873 age about56 mother of at least 5children. John (Lynch) & Sarah (Pendergast) produced at least 3children: 1.Mary Ann (Lynch) was born on 11 10 1826 at Pennant Hills & baptised on 24 12 1826 at St Marys RC Sydney. She is listed in 1828 with her parents at Ashgrove Luskintyre. She died on 31 8 1886 age59. 2.Margaret Jane (Lynch) was born on 9 6 1828 at 'Wolenbine' Hunter River & baptised on 29 4 1830 age22m w/John (Pendergast) at St Marys RC Sydney. She is listed in 1828 with her parents at Ashgrove Luskintyre. She died on 18 7 1888 age60. 3.Sarah (Lynch) was born in 1830. She died in 1902 age about72. John became quite a landowner in his own right: In 1833 John took possession of 100 acres on Sugarloaf or Watagan Creek and named it Grove Hill. He went on to acquire two adjoining 100 acre farms, one of which became the site of the Wattagon Public School. Between 1841 and 1851 he purchased six more portions, four on Watagan Creek, one near Wollombi and one on Narone Creek.




In 1825, John married Sarah Jane Pendergast. Sarah Jane was the daughter of John Pendergast (Irish Convict, 1800, "Minerva") and Jane Williams (Convict, 1800, "Nile"). Sarah Jane was the widow of Patrick Tunney (Irish Convict, 1817, "Pilot") who had died in 1824. She had two young children, Bridget and Catherine Tunney when she married John. The family appear in the 1828 Census: Page 241... [Ref L1322] Lynch, Margaret 4 months born in the colony. ## Bridget and Caterine appear to be using their step-father's surname. the Thomas Pendergast mentioned as the property owner is Sarah's brother.
