KILKENNY ASSIZES. … COUNTY COURT. … John Maher, for stabbing John Phelan, at Rathpatrick, on the 11 th of August last, with intent to kill him. Guilty, to be executed on the 21st April next.. ... Tipperary Free Press, 31 March 1827. Saturday morning, a King’s messenger arrived at this City with a respite, to stay, until Saturday next, the execution of John Maher, who was sentenced, at our late Assizes, to suffer death on the former day, for stabbing John Phelan, at Rathpatrick, on the 11th of August last. We trust the clemency of Government will be still further extended to the unhappy young man, as the county Kilkenny is so profoundly tranquil.— Leinster Journal.
