Convict Notes
Norfolk Assizes. PRISONERS. Edward Maidens aged 18, and Wm. Coales, aged 24, were indicted for having feloniously stolen from the person of Thomas Staines, of Colchester, huckster, on the King's highway, Hilborough, a basket, three half-crowns, ten shillings, one sixpence, twenty-four pennies, and forty half-pennies. The prisoners were found guilty and sentence of Death recorded against them. Edward Betts was admitted King's evidence. After the trial Mr. Baron Gurney called up a witness named Anderson and stated that he had been guilty of gross prevarication, and he should therefore commit him to custody, which his Lordship did accordingly.
