12 July 1827 - died from gunshot wound received when being hunted as a bushranger. Colonial Times and Tasmanian Advertiser, Hobart, Friday 13 July 1827, page 2 "Report says one of the bush-rangers, Charles M'Carty, on the approach of the Military, levelled his piece at one of the soldiers, and fired ; the shot passed through the brass ornament of the cap, but fortunately the man escaped unhurt. The fire was returned, and M'Carty fell, mortally wounded, having died yesterday morning in the Colonial Hospital."
