Remarks: “Sentence commuted to 5 years’ penal servitude” [no date given on this notation] (Western Australia, Australia, Convict Records, 1846-1930; Convict Department, Registers; Character Book, 1850 - 1857 (R17)). --00--

WA CONVICT DEPT REGISTER: He is incorrectly named in this document as Thomas Connell. 4504 Connell, Thomas, 22 (when convicted), received 4 August 1857, from ship “City of Palaces”; single, literate, boilermaker, character received with prisoner “tolerable”, convicted 22 Nov, 1856, Poonah, throwing his capt at Lt Col Liddle, sentence 14 years; reconviction 25 July, 1860, at Swan for disobedience, 1 month jail (no mention of remittance to 7 years) (Western Australia, Australia, Convict Records, 1846-1930 for John McCartney; Convict Department; Registers (128/38 - 39)). --00--
