Convict Notes

1831, 27 June: Robert ALEXANDER and John McCOURT were tried at the High Court in Edinburgh and convicted for “the crime of theft, habit and repute at George Square, Edinburgh”. They appear in the Court records as: Robert Alexander, 15, a trunk maker from Miller’s Close, Canongate, Edinburgh, born in Edinburgh; and John McCourt, 13, from North Gray’s Close, High Street, Edinburgh, born in Edinburgh. Their victims were James Cadett of George Square and Murdoch Cunningham of North St David Street, Edinburgh, from whom they stole shirts and handkerchiefs.
