THOMAS BAKER, HENRY McGEE, Theft > pocketpicking, 17th May 1832. NEW COURT, WEDNESDAY, MAY 23. Fifth Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Common Sergeant. 1378. THOMAS BAKER and HENRY McGEE were indicted for stealing, on the 1st of May , 1 necklace, value 8s., the goods of Charles Barnes , from Maria Barnes ; and that Henry McGee had been before convicted of felony . MARY BARNES. I am the wife of Charles Barnes ; my daughter Maria is eight years old; I put a necklace on her neck on the 1st of May; I afterwards saw her without it. MARIA BARNES. I am the daughter of Charles Barnes. On the 1st of May I went out with Mrs. Lathan, to look at the chimney-sweepers; I had a necklace on -Baker snatched it off my neck, and gave it to the other prisoner, who ran away towards the market; I laid hold of Baker's coat, and some persons came to my assistance. JOHN MEARS. I am the son of William Mears . I was in Bath-street on the 1st of May, looking at the sweepers; I saw Baker snatch the necklace off Maria Barnes ' neck; he turned his hand round, and gave it to the other prisoner; they both ran through the mob, but Baker was stopped; Maria Barnes said, "You thief, give me my necklace;" he said, "I have not seen it;" I said, "Yes, you have, I saw you." McGee. I was in the country at the time; this witness's word is not to be taken - he is nothing but a bad character. Witness. I am sure it was you; I know you perfectly well. HENRY BERESFORD (Police-serjeant G 8). I was at the station when Baker was brought in; I found nothing on him - the other prisoner was described, and I took him a week afterwards. THOMAS HOBBS KING(Police-constable N 248). I produce a certificate from Mr. Clark's office of the former conviction of McGee; I was present, and know he is the person - he was convicted by the name of McGinn, and whipped. BAKER - GUILTY .
