Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The Convict Indentures state that Rose McKay was 36 years old. She could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status a widow with one daughter and a native of County Londonderry. She was a house maid. Rose was convicted at Londonderry on 5 July 1838 for stealing a quilt and sentenced to 7 years. She had one prior convictions for which she served 2 months. Physical attributes; Height 5 feet 3 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy freckled and pock pitted; hair dark brown and eyes brown. She was blind in her left eye. Transport number 88. Prisoner number 87/39. Received Certificate of freedom in 1845 (number 45/1244).
