John McLAUGHLIN had arrived in Australia per the ship 'Canada' - free? earlier convict? He was in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) when he was convicted of stealing 3 pigs - Launceston Court 29 Sept 1832. 7 yr transportation sentence. Stayed in VDL under convict system. VDL: 1833-1835: Muster at Public Works. 22 May 1837: Died at the H.M. Colonial Hospital, VDL.
