LIMERICK ASSIZES. Thursday, July 31. Richard Moloney, Michael Ryan, William Casey, Thomas Moylan, William Meade, and Jeremiah Conway, were capitally indicted for forcibly breaking into the dwelling-house of Robert Harding, Esq., Derawlin, on the 19th of May last, and feloniously taking several stands of arms thereout. There were two separate indictments. Robert Harding sworn, and examined by Mr, Witness lived at at Derawlin, in May last; recollects the 19th of that month, when the house was broken in; house was forced in and arms taken at ten o’clock in the forenoon; witness was in his bed room when the prisoners broke in thro’ the lower part of the house; saw the window sashes thrown in; there was very great crash; went towards the landing place and first saw his sister Anne coming up, much frightened; told him the croppies had broken in; witness turned back immediately and attempted to load bis gun; he loaded it; heard people rushing up stairs; they turned off from the landing towards his room, and went that leading to his sister’s; he followed and saw only two of them; turned back to the room again; witness had no wadding in his gun ; looked towards the door and saw his sister Maria running up and followed one of the party; eight of them entered the room with him that morning; thought to fire the gun, but his sister was between him and the fellows; turned to the door and fired ; the shot took no effect; they then hailed on the stair.; one of them rushed witness and followed the others; witness was knocked down with pistol and overpowered ; saw a pistol, bayonet, and guns cut down by them they took his arms, consisting of two double-barrelled guns, a horse pistol, a single barrelled gun, and a small sword or dirk, which was hanging up; they remained eight or ten minutes in the room; some of them were disguised; their faces appeared to be covered with bog mould.; the attack was a Monday ; witness would know some of the party; saw one of them before that, when out patrolling at night; witness would know three of Conway, Ryan, and Molony, whom he identified; saw once before ; witness swore two informations, one before Mr. Mason, and the other before Mr. Hunnerbassell. Cross-examined—Witness first heard a crash; a crash; then saw his sister Anne running up ; she was much hurried; was much confused; put the bullet the powder without wadding; he was afraid his sister would be injured; bar him only three sisters, in the house; heard of persons making mistakes in identifying others, but witness generally very accurate as to identity. …
